FIRE RATED SYSTEMS THAT MAKE PROJECTS EASIER TO DESIGN

From time to time, you’ll come across projects where the usual fire-rated systems don't quite fit the design or technical requirements.
And when that happens, you would be spending time finding a suitable solution while already dealing with 100+ other things in the project!
Having more fire-rated system options available can give architects and project teams more flexibility when facing these situations.
Now, there is a fire-rated system that has been around for decades, although it may not be as familiar in Malaysia, that can be another option to consider when the usual approach doesn't quite fit.
That's PROMAT's Calcium Silicate Fire-Rated Systems.
ANOTHER FIRE-RATED OPTION FOR PROJECTS THAT NEED A DIFFERENT APPROACH

While gypsum remains a familiar choice for many fire-rated applications in Malaysia, calcium silicate fire-protection systems have been established internationally for decades, including in markets such as Singapore and across Europe.
So, what makes the board and system different?
Firstly, the boards are dimensionally stable, which helps make them:
Durable, rigid, and impact-resistant.
Resistant to moisture, helping prevent moisture deformation that could weaken a fire-rated system.
Because of these characteristics, PROMAT offers system configurations designed around specific technical requirements, such as thinner or lighter systems that can still achieve the required fire-rating performance.
This gives architects and project teams access to 16+ fire-rated systems across different applications, including partitions, ceilings, parapet walls (spandrel systems), smoke barriers, structural steel, ducting, and more, with systems approved for up to 4 hours of fire-rated performance.
These systems are also supported by a range of PROMAT fire-protection products, from calcium silicate boards to fire-stopping products. You can explore the other products here.
The systems and boards are certified, tested, and approved by BOMBA in Malaysia, giving you greater confidence that the system meets the required regulatory and performance requirements.
Since PROMAT is also an internationally established fire-protection brand, it can be useful for projects influenced by international standards, specifications, or project stakeholders familiar with fire-protection systems used in other markets.
If a project has a requirement that cannot be addressed by the systems available locally, the team can also explore PROMAT's wider international portfolio that may be relevant, subject to the project's technical, certification, and availability requirements.
WHERE CAN PROMAT FIRE-RATED SYSTEMS BE USED
Fire-rated requirements can vary quite a bit from one project to another.
Sometimes, it comes down to the way the building is designed. Sometimes, it's the available space, structural limitations, installation access, or specific project requirements.
For example:
No direct beam access for the ceiling?
Maybe there’s M&E above, or the structure doesn't provide a suitable point to hang a suspended ceiling. A self-supporting ceiling system supported by the walls could be considered instead.
Limited load capacity on the ceiling beam?
Where the available load capacity is limited, a lighter fire-rated configuration may be suitable. If adding load to the beam isn't doable, a self-supporting ceiling system could also be considered.
Only one side of the partition is accessible?
A solid partition system that can be installed from one side provides an option where access from both sides isn't available.
These are just some of the situations where different system configurations can be useful.
There are also applications where certain system characteristics can be particularly valuable, especially where moisture, impact, fire risk, or the protection of human lives need to be considered, such as:
Kitchens, where moisture and fire protection are both considerations, making dimensional stability important for maintaining the integrity of the system.
Hospitals, where protecting human lives is an important consideration, particularly in areas with high traffic or where occupants may have limited mobility.
Factory storage areas, where walls can be exposed to equipment, movement, or accidental impact, making a rigid and impact-resistant system useful.
Battery rooms and other higher-risk areas, where the potential for fire can be greater, making the level of fire protection an important consideration when greater reassurance is needed.
YOU DON'T HAVE TO FIGURE OUT FIRE-RATED SYSTEMS ALONE
PROMAT brings over 60 years of fire-protection expertise across 42 countries, while PROSAFE has over 20 years of experience serving the local market.
But our role isn't simply to supply the system.
We aim to provide architects, contractors, and project teams with the information, technical support, and practical help they need to move their projects forward smoothly.
That includes:
Need a general introduction to fire-rated systems? We can provide presentations to help architects and project teams build their knowledge.
Need 1-on-1 specification help? Our team can work through the requirements with you.
Have a project where the available local systems don't quite fit? We can explore potential solutions from PROMAT's international range, subject to the project's requirements.
Need help understanding the installation method? We can walk you through it and connect you with our certified installers where needed.
Need to counter-propose a fire-rated solution? Our technical team can provide the information and support you need to make your case.
We aim to make fire-rated systems easier to work with, from design through installation.
So whether you're an architect facing a fire-rated challenge during the design stage, or you're simply looking to understand more systems for your next project...
