2 Hour Fire and Smoke Barrier System

Where fire and smoke compartmentation is required within large open spaces, a fire and smoke barrier system provides an effective solution for restricting the spread of smoke while maintaining fire integrity. It is commonly used to subdivide buildings into smoke control zones while maintaining the required fire separation.

The 2 Hour Fire and Smoke Barrier System supplied by PROSAFE is constructed using a single layer of 9mm PROMINA® 60 calcium silicate board fixed to a galvanised steel channel framework with PROMINA® 60 cover strips at the horizontal joints. The complete assembly incorporates steel framing and provides an overall system thickness of 111mm.

Designed to resist fire exposure from either side, the system has been tested to EN 12101-1 as an asymmetrical smoke screen and provides 120 minutes of fire integrity, achieving a Fire Resistance Level (FRL) of -/120/- when installed in accordance with the approved tested assembly.

Suitable for commercial, industrial, institutional and public buildings, this tested system provides a practical passive fire protection solution where both smoke control and fire compartmentation are required.

The 2 Hour Fire and Smoke Barrier System is suitable for a variety of building types, including:

  • Commercial buildings

  • Industrial facilities

  • Institutional buildings

  • Shopping centres

  • Airports

  • Transport hubs

  • High rise buildings

  • Large open plan developments

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this system tested?

Yes. This system has been tested to EN 12101-1 as an asymmetrical smoke screen system and provides 120 minutes of fire integrity, achieving a Fire Resistance Level (FRL) of -/120/- when installed in accordance with the approved tested assembly. It is supported by the relevant test documentation and is accepted for project submission where applicable.

Do fire rated systems require certificate renewal?

No. Building owners do not need to renew the fire test certification. The certification is maintained by the system manufacturer (PROMAT), while the installed system should always follow the tested assembly and manufacturer recommendations.

How much does this system cost?

The cost depends on factors such as the project size, barrier dimensions and specification requirements. Contact PROSAFE for a project-specific quotation and technical advice here.

Why choose PROSAFE for passive fire protection systems?

PROSAFE supplies PROMAT fire rated systems that are rigid, lightweight, moisture resistant and supported by tested documentation. With a wide range of system options and practical technical support, we help make system selection easier for projects across Malaysia.

What Fire Resistance Level (FRL) does this system achieve?

When installed in accordance with the approved tested assembly, this system achieves a Fire Resistance Level (FRL) of -/120/- (integrity only) and provides 120 minutes of fire integrity when exposed to fire from either side.

Is this system impact resistant?

Yes. The system is classified as Severe Duty (SD) for impact resistance when tested in accordance with EN 12101-1. The PROMINA® 60 board is also classified as EUROCLASS A1 and is moisture resistant, allowing it to regain its strength after drying.
